Nutrition Notes 2019:
Hopefully, none of you have done any severe restriction with your eating in a “resolution” type of solution to overindulging during the holidays. If you have, I want to talk you out of it and steer you to something that will have a more positive effect on both your short and long term health.
Strength work is my top recommendation for 2019 and beyond. Short term, strength work will lower the stress response (cortisol) which will assist the body in its ability to burn fat and get rid of extra water. Long term, strength work will protect your metabolism. Muscle takes 4-6 times the calories to maintain, so having more muscle means you need more calories. Maintaining your strength and muscle is key to healthful aging: better blood pressure, improved blood sugar, less age related weight (fat) gain, and less falls.
Stay Strong and Enjoy Your Food!
