Holiday Nutrition Notes
As we come to the “most wonderful time of the year” there can be bouts of stress, snacking and sedentary behavior. These factors may lead to some less healthy coping mechanisms such as alcohol. In the food science world we say that alcohol opens and enhances the palate and that it also lowers inhibitions. In practical terms, this can mean that food will taste better when paired with an adult beverage and that we may be more likely to over-consume calories because the part of our decision making process that might stop eating after one helping is somewhat disengaged.
Happy, healthy holidays. Stay safe and mindful.
